Straight talkThe library is open content made by others (Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, US government works). It’s free to copy, and the kit lists every source and licence. You’re paying for the curation, our guides, the app, the setup and a drive we’ve built and checked for you.

On the drive

  • Everything on the Pocket Drive: the Grid-Down app, every guide, the offline library (all of English Wikipedia with images, medical, manuals, expert Q&A), the US street map, offline AI and reader apps
  • Every USGS US Topo map sheet for your state as GeoPDFs (a typical state is 25–60 GB of maps), plus 1-arc-second elevation and the USGS water data for your state
  • Whole-US OpenStreetMap data for map software such as QGIS
  • The Spanish edition of Ready.gov
  • Credits for every file, its maker and its licence

In the box

  • The 1 TB SSD, formatted exFAT for Mac, Windows, Linux, Android and iPhone
  • The Field Manual, printed in full colour on US Letter (65 pages)

How we build it

  • Every library file is checked against its publisher’s checksum, and every drive is checked file by file against our master copy before it ships.
  • Built to order and shipped by us in 5–10 business days. If we ever can’t meet that, we’ll email you a new date and you can cancel for a full refund.

Good to know

  • A GeoPDF opens as a picture in any PDF reader. A map app that supports GeoPDF, such as Avenza Maps, can show your GPS position on it.
  • The SSD’s brand and colour may vary with supply. The capacity is always 1 TB.
  • Alaska’s full topo set is very large; if you choose Alaska we’ll email you before building to agree the coverage.
  • The offline AI makes mistakes. Check numbers and safety steps against the printed guide.

General preparedness information, not medical, legal or engineering advice. In an emergency, follow local officials and call 911.

Questions

Questions about The Grid-Down Kit — Core Drive (1 TB SSD)

What’s on the Core Drive?

Everything on the Pocket Drive, plus every USGS US Topo map sheet for your state as GeoPDFs, 1-arc-second elevation and USGS water data for your state, whole-US OpenStreetMap data and the Spanish edition of Ready.gov. The printed Field Manual (65 pages, full colour, US Letter) comes in the box.

How do the topo maps work?

A GeoPDF opens as a picture in any PDF reader. A map app that supports GeoPDF, such as Avenza Maps, can show your GPS position on it. A typical state is 25–60 GB of maps.

How is it delivered?

We build it to order on a 1 TB SSD formatted exFAT for Mac, Windows, Linux, Android and iPhone, check it file by file against our master copy, and ship it in 5–10 business days. If we ever can’t meet that, we’ll email you a new date and you can cancel for a full refund. If you choose Alaska, we’ll email you before building to agree the coverage.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The app, the library, the maps and the offline AI all work with no internet. It’s a drive, not a Wi-Fi hotspot: a laptop can share the library over Wi-Fi to phones nearby. The offline AI makes mistakes, so check numbers and safety steps against the printed guide.

Where does the advice come from?

Public-safety agencies such as FEMA (Ready.gov), CDC, EPA, the National Weather Service, USGS and the Red Cross, plus peer-reviewed research, cited where each method appears. General preparedness information, not medical advice. In an emergency, follow local officials and call 911.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Digital downloads: contact us within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. Drives and printed editions: return them within 30 days of delivery for a full refund of the item price; contact us first and we’ll send you the return address.
