SOS.city is not an emergency service
In an emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number). Don't wait for SOS.city, and don't use it to report an emergency. We don't monitor messages or requests in real time, and we can't send help.
Get official alerts directly
SOS.city gathers alerts from official sources so you can see them in one place. But they can arrive late, be incomplete, or stop if a source changes or goes down. For anything that affects your safety, sign up with the official channels:
- Wireless Emergency Alerts. Keep emergency alerts turned on in your phone's settings.
- Your city and county alert systems. In Los Angeles, these are NotifyLA (City of Los Angeles) and Alert LA County.
- National Weather Service warnings at weather.gov.
- Your water and power utility for boil-water notices, outages and planned shutoffs.
- CAL FIRE and your local fire department for wildfire evacuations. In other places, use your state's fire agency.
Always follow official instructions
If an official order says something different from SOS.city (an evacuation, a boil-water notice or a shelter-in-place), follow the official order. Every alert on SOS.city links to its source, so you can check the original.
No guarantee
We work to keep alerts accurate and fast, but we can't promise they will be, and we're not responsible for decisions made using them. See the Terms of Use.
